Freeport-McMoRan employees don’t always work at a traditional office desk.

Some spend their days at mining operations, processing facilities, or other industrial locations. Others work in engineering, administration, or corporate departments.

Enterprise Workspace, commonly known as FMI EWS, is designed to support these different working environments.

The platform is available through a web browser and dedicated mobile applications for iOS and Android.

But using EWS on a phone isn’t necessarily identical to using every company application on a desktop computer.

Three Ways to Use Enterprise Workspace

Freeport’s official FMI Home portal identifies three supported ways to use Enterprise Workspace:

  • Web version
  • iOS application
  • Android application

All three are intended to provide convenient access to workplace information and resources.

The web version is suitable for employees working from a computer, while the mobile applications make it easier to find information away from a desk.

The important distinction is that EWS acts as a central workspace connecting multiple resources.

It doesn’t mean every connected tool has exactly the same functionality across devices.

What the Mobile Application Includes

Freeport’s official EWS application description identifies several major features.

These include company news, organizational announcements, colleague search, workplace forms, business applications, reports, and self-service resources.

The application also includes site-specific information and Microsoft 365 search capabilities.

This makes the mobile version more useful than a basic company news reader.

Employees can locate different workplace resources without needing to remember where every application or document is maintained.

Corporate News on the Move

One practical advantage of the mobile application is access to Freeport-McMoRan news and organizational updates.

The official description includes notifications for important company announcements.

This is useful for employees who don’t spend their entire workday in front of a computer.

However, a notification about company news shouldn’t be confused with a site emergency communication.

Freeport maintains separate emergency communication resources, including EASE.

Employees should continue following the established emergency procedures for their location.

Finding Colleagues From Your Phone

Enterprise Workspace includes a People & Colleagues search feature.

This can help employees locate information about coworkers when they need to identify someone in another department.

For a company operating across numerous locations, a centralized colleague-search function is useful.

However, the exact information available about each person depends on the company’s internal directory.

EWS shouldn’t be assumed to expose every detail associated with an employee.

Searching for Documents

The application also supports Microsoft 365 search.

This provides a way to locate documents and resources maintained within the company’s connected environment.

For example, an employee may need to find a reference document rather than open a business application.

Document search and application search serve different purposes.

Finding a document doesn’t necessarily mean that it can be edited from every device.

The available actions depend on the document, its permissions, and the application used to open it.

Site Resources Are Particularly Useful on Mobile

Freeport operates at multiple locations, each with its own workplace information.

Enterprise Workspace includes Site Resources for local schedules, announcements, and other location-specific materials.

Employees should use the information relevant to their particular workplace.

A schedule published for one operating site shouldn’t automatically be treated as applicable to another.

The mobile application makes these resources easier to reach, but employees still need to distinguish local information from company-wide announcements.

Forms and Tasks May Behave Differently

Freeport describes EWS as providing access to forms, tasks, applications, and self-service tools.

Some activities may be convenient to complete on a phone.

Others may involve a connected application that works better on a desktop or has additional requirements.

The public EWS description doesn’t establish complete feature parity between mobile and desktop for every connected system.

If a particular form or report doesn’t behave as expected on mobile, check the requirements of the underlying application.

Don’t assume the entire EWS platform is malfunctioning because one connected resource has limitations.

EWS Isn’t the Same as Every Other Freeport App

Freeport-McMoRan has published several employee-oriented applications over time.

These include FM App, Freeporters, and specialized tools such as Digital WS.

They shouldn’t automatically be treated as interchangeable with Enterprise Workspace.

For example, Freeport describes Digital WS as an application used for mobile field inspections.

EWS has a broader purpose: bringing company information, workplace resources, and frequently used tools together.

When choosing an application, check its official name and intended function.

When Desktop May Be More Practical

The desktop experience may be preferable when working with lengthy documents, reviewing detailed reports, or completing activities involving several windows.

A larger display can make it easier to compare information and work with complex forms.

Mobile is particularly convenient for checking announcements, finding colleagues, and locating resources while away from a workstation.

Neither option is automatically better for every activity.

The most practical choice depends on the task and the connected application’s capabilities.

What If a Resource Appears on One Device but Not Another?

First, confirm that you’re using the same intended resource.

A workplace application may open differently in a mobile environment, or certain functions may depend on the connected service.

Check whether the resource has specific device requirements.

If the issue persists, Freeport provides Helpdesk resources through FMI Home.

When reporting the problem, identify whether you’re using the web, iOS, or Android version and name the affected application.

This is more useful than reporting that EWS doesn’t work.

One Workspace Across Different Working Environments

Enterprise Workspace is designed to make Freeport-McMoRan’s internal information and tools easier to find.

The availability of web and mobile versions supports employees working in offices, industrial operations, and other environments.

However, EWS remains a central workspace connected to different applications, each with its own capabilities.

When using fmi ews or ews freeport, choose the device that fits your task. Mobile is convenient for workplace information and quick resource discovery, while desktop may be more practical for detailed activities. Both provide ways to use Freeport’s Enterprise Workspace without making every connected tool identical.
